Flashbacks to 🚂 A leaving a station at a certain time and 🚂 B leaving another station, blah, blah, blah.

I had to re-read because I didn’t get the math without a spreadsheet 😇 (you know me), but finally got it, and said, good thing she didn’t stray far from the station!!

When my mom lived in Erie (PA) and I lived in Albany (NY), the one daily Chicago-New York train was officially scheduled at like 3:15 am, but you could wake up at 2, see it was running 3 hours late like always, then get some more sleep.

The bulletin board at the Erie train station was a wall of newspaper articles about how poor the service was there, but beyond their control. I thought this was very brave of the stationmaster.

Ha! Unfortunately, the Amtrak app does not notify customers of delays or track changes or anything really until way after it would be helpful. So for example, I'll already have been sitting on the train for 10 minutes when I get the notification on the app or the text announcing the track number. I'll get a notification that the train is an hour late 5 minutes before it's supposed to leave but clearly they knew this information earlier. I read a very depressing article last year that explained why Amtrak service in this part of the country has very little chance of ever improving because of infrastructure changes and investments that were not made decades ago when they were proposed, and it's pretty much too late now to incorporate them. I'll give you one guess who was behind most of those decisions.

Yeah, I guess what I meant by “see it was running 3 hours late like always” is that you could call the station on the phone directly, this was before apps.
